Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Decorating a nursery seems like such a monumental task.  There are so many different directions you can go in, and places like Pottery Barn Kids, Pinterest, and Land of Nod just confuse me further.  I was torn between doing a cream and grey theme (light, airy, and peaceful) or an all out bright colored girly room.

Well, I just HAD to go pink.  Lots and lots of pink.  And teal, bright green, cream, yellow…. It's sorta blinding and ADD inducing bright.

I actually started with the cream crib.  We were incredibly lucky to have our friends Emily and Kevin loan it to us.  Perfect!  Next up was her dresser.  It's hard to tell in the picture, but Guy painted our old china cabinet base a VERY bright purplish pink.  It looks really good and provides tons of storage.

I had the hardest time finding bedding that I liked.  It seems like little girl nursery items can get cheesy quick.  I finally just gave in and decided to find fabric I like a sew, sew, sew.  I should mention that I really don't know how to sew and any resulting project I make is the combination of luck, cursing, and wine.  All in all, it turned out pretty well so maybe my lack of wine actually helped.  (But I'm not quite willing to test that theory too much.)

One thing I love about her bedroom is her window seat.  I always wanted a window seat when I was little.  (Actually, I kind want one now.)  Gary helped complete it by making a Thunder Original cornice board for the window.  It looks SO good.

I found the rug online, which scared me but actually coordinated with her dresser and fabric colors PERFECTLY.

By the way, did you know the 2014 Pantone Color of the year is Radiant Orchid?  It's nearly an exact match for the "purplish pink" that we chose.  Clearly the color people should just consult me for further color of the year choices.

Here are a few more pictures from around her room.  They don't show off all of the areas, but a lot of things are still a work in progress.  I am finishing up painting and sewing a new rocking chair as well as getting some of her newborn pictures printed and hung up.

Also, I took these (except the black and whites that I'm in - those were Guy) right when she was 2 weeks old.
