Dear Beckett: 22 Months

Dear Beckett,

It has been way too long since I have written you last.  Maybe it's because you are keeping me so busy - laughing, cleaning, feeding, trips to the park, seeing the horses, more cleaning, and lots and lots of laughs.  It's the very best kind of busy.

Right now you are talking more and more.  Each day you say new words.  Yesterday it was house and horses, the other day it was necklace and "nastics" (gymnastics).  Your most commonly used words and phrases are "here/there ya go," whoaaaaa, snack, uh oh, help please, thank you, B, oh dada, mama, moose, paci, app app (apple), nigh noh (night night), bye bye, oh no, yeah, yum, nummy, owie, nose, ants, eye, and no.  But of course, you say a lot more than this.

You are also excellent at making animal sounds.  Your dada and I never tire of hearing your dinosaur roar or chicken "bock bock bock."  And you love animals - especially the lizards, horses, dogs, and ants around our neighborhood.

You also love sports and anything that involves a ball.  Right now golf seems to be your favorite.  You run all over the yard with your plastic golf club and a ball, whacking as hard as you can.  You also love to lay down with Dada and watch the tournaments on TV.  T-ball seems to be a close 2nd.

You also love your family and friends.  You get ecstatic when you see your grandparents or friends.  Nearly every day you look at the photos around our house and point to each person so that we can talk about them.  You will often kiss the picture too!

The other day we played outside with your new kite.  Dada was trying to show off and he ended up getting your kite stuck in the tree.  You weren't upset, but you talk about your kite being stuck every.single.day - yes, really.  You laugh and say, "ohhhhhh dada."  It's a running joke around the house now.

Rock collecting seems to be your new favorite hobby.  I can't tell you how many rocks I have stacked in the laundry room because they were in your pants.  You collect rocks and put them in your pocket every time you go outside.

We spend hours and hours outside each day.  You are always happy to run around outside and it keeps the house just a little bit cleaner!  Your favorite outside toys are your little plastic car, balls, the bubble maker, and your playhouse.  You talk about bubbles all the time!

We got to the park a lot.  Your favorites are the slide (bigger the better) and the swing.

Trains continue to be your very favorite indoor toy.  You will play with the magnetic ones for hours on end.  You rarely play with other toys.  Looking at books is also a favorite.

You are just like your momma when you wake up - lay in bed for awhile, slow to wake up, and a *bit* on the cranky side.  You also eat like me too - love carbs, fruit (you love bananas, apples, and berries the most), chocolate and are very finicky about meat.

We both agree Chick-Fil-A picnics are the best.

Pretty much everything else about you reminds me of your dad.  You two are peas in a pod!

Happy 21st, Steph!

How is it that my little sis is now 21?  The age of late nights, hard mornings, and overall debauchery?  I don't know but it seems crazy.  This is the girl who infamously yelled "noooooooo" on repeat as a toddler, is commonly known as weffers, has an unmatched love of clothes and shopping, can run fast -seriously fast, drove 3 hours each way just to watch her nephew overnight, and has the biggest heart of anyone I know.

I'm so happy I got to celebrate her day with a fantastic party.  Let me tell you, nothing makes you feel *thirty* like partying it up with a bunch of 21 years olds.  But what sweet friends she has!  Happy Birthday Weffers... I love you!

Rock the Shot: March Submission

This month's contest theme at www.rocktheshotforum.com is floral still life.  As you know, we moved into our new house in October.  To my surprise I had a few clusters of daffodils pop up this March!  Every time I see them, they just make me smile.

New Curtains

I have been working on trying to get Beckett's room all finished.  I'm sure that as soon as I do, it will be time to change it into more of a "big boy" room.  Will the decorating and fixing up of a house EVER be finished?  I doubt it.

Anyhow, I have finally got a major task accomplished.  For Christmas I received a new sewing machine from my parents and I tested it out by making new curtains for Beckett's room.  I used leftover fabric for the main curtains, so all I had to buy was a king size sheet for the curtain liner and the sheer  material for the secondary curtains.

They are far from perfect, but I think they help to finish off the room.  Since I lined them they also block out almost all of the light which definitely helps at nap time.

My final projects for his room are a "Look What I Made" sign and picture holder for under his BLM picture, a few framed pictures for over the board and batten, a new ceiling fan, 3" blinds, and eventually a magnet board mounted to the right of his dresser.

And just to give you an idea of what this room looked like before....

I realize that these pictures don't really give you much of a view of the room, but I think you can tell it sure does look a lot better!

A Few Randoms

A hodge-podge of random February pics that I hadn't posted yet....

B was sick for TWO whole weeks in February.  It was beyond awful.  You know how grumpy men are when they are sick?  Let's just say B fits right into that stereotype.  He was not a happy camper.  Anyhow, so one night we busted out a new toy (a bubble blower) and it has been a hit.  I think this was the very first time he actually saw and played with bubbles.  A little curious and unsure at first, and then  he decided they were possibly tasty... ha!

Since then the bubble blower gets played with nearly everyday.

Another favorite toy has been a $2.99 Target ball.  Beckett loves for balls to be thrown really high in the air.

By the way, if you do this approximately 25 times repeatedly you WILL be sore the next morning. :)

Once he got over being sick, we got back to our old routine of playing outside everyday.  We go see the horses several times a week.

Is there anything cuter than a baby in suspenders?  I think not.

B has also been busy playing in the dirt and looking for good rocks and bugs.

Oh!  And another great purchase (from good ole Tarjay) has been our kites.

Guy was traveling quite a bit last month, so B and I entertained ourselves with walks to the field and t-ball practice.

(taking the path less traveled)

I think that about wraps up February for Mr. Beckett!  I have a couple of other random posts to write up, and then I will be all caught up.  Hurray!
