Lovely Little Weekend

What a super fun weekend!  Guy was actually HOME and wasn't overwhelmed with WORK, so we were able to do some fun things.  Here's a quick rundown:

Friday night we went over to the Renters for yummy snacks and drinks.  The Stoner's were there too and it's always a fun night to just hang out and talk.  We played "The Game of Things" which is a great game - especially when you try to pin all of the inappropriate answers onto Guy!

Saturday morning we hung out in our pj's and watched TV.  Have you seen Doomsday Preppers?  Gary and Guyla had told us about it and I'm kinda hooked.  It's crazy how all of the featured families have different views of how the world is going to collapse - everything from solar flares to toxic waste.  Guy and I haven't secured our "bug-out" location just yet, but perhaps we will get some ideas from the preppers.... ha!

That afternoon I went to a bridal shower for my friend Laura.  Her bridesmaids threw her the cutest shower.  Lots of good ideas from pinterest!

That evening we braved the rain and went to a ridiculously early dinner at Kozy Kafe (what used to be Weck's, then Jimmy's Egg).  The atmosphere needs a lot of help, but the food was actually really yummy. It's southern cooking, which we both love. Then we headed off to Grapevine Mills.  It was RIDICULOUSLY crowded.  Like Christmas crowded!  We were able to get Guy a ton of new clothes, which he really needed.

On Sunday we headed to downtown Dallas for a fun outing.  It turned into a gorgeous day.... after all of our rain, it was awesome to be outside.

We ate a yummy lunch at Jake's Hamburgers.  I had never been, but I highly recommend the fried pickles and veggie burger.  Delish.  Even Beckett was impressed.

Then we walked around the farmer's market.  We picked up a bunch of fresh veggies and fruit.

When we got home Guy grilled a turkey tenderloin and we had roasted potatoes and squash from the market.  Guy put B down while I snuck off for some Blue Goose margaritas.

So, yep... is was definitely a lovely little weekend for the Mayo's!

The other day I felt very Martha Stewart-Like and decided to tackle  a project that I have been wanting to do for FOREVER.  New curtains for our entryway!

Our entry door has two skinny windows on either side.  Since we moved in there have been some really gross sheer curtains covering them.  The rods were at one time a lovely brass, but probably 10 years ago they faded to a mottled silver/rust combo.  Pretty, pretty.

Not only was the whole look not very try exciting, but I hated the feeling that people could look inside our house so easily.  (You know, like when the scouts selling cookies and popcorn come to your door and they have their noses pressed up against the glass staring you down.  No running and hiding from that - they get me every time.)

Here is the before, with one curtain removed.  Oh, and I am refinishing the door knocker and repainting the door, so ignore that for now:

I started by taking down the rods and using Rust-oleum's Oil rubbed bronze spray paint to refinish them.  They look brand new! I bought a single curtain from Target, cut it in half, and re-sewed the edges and rod pockets.  It was seriously so easy!  And super cheap.

Ta-Daaaa!

So, there you have it!  My Martha Stewart inner diva came out.  Now I am going to go be very un-Martha and whip up some delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner.  And maybe some girl scout cookies for dessert.  Don't be jealous.

Midweek Randoms

I skipped last week, so I better have some good stuff...right?

* Spring is in the air!  I couldn't be happier.  I love warm weather and crave being outside.  Amazingly it was such a mild winter that my petunias, ferns, and other plants never died!  My backyard is in bloom and I didn't have to do a thing.  NICE!

* I have also tried to pull out some of the Easter decor.  I found these super cute Spring and Easter Egg banners at Target for around $12.00.  That's probably cheaper than what I could make them for, so I was excited.  I plan to add name decals to the Easter buckets (like I did for Valentine's Day).  The buckets are also from Target and around $10 or so.

* Running - yep, I am still at it.  I'm too lazy to go get my phone to check my best run for times, BUT I know for a fact that I have ran 5.3 miles twice in the last two weeks as well as a couple of 4 mile and other shorter runs.  That makes me happy!

* Guy only traveled ONE NIGHT this week!  Hurray!  Isn't this a great picture of him?  I love his natural, real smile.  I got this while we were in Oklahoma.  He was playing with Beckett :).

* Are you watching Smash yet?  It's really good.  Even Guy is into it.  It really makes me want to go back to New York City!  I just love the "big apple."  Sometimes I think it would have been really fun to just pack up and have moved there for a year or so.  But, then again....

* I have been reading The Night Circus.  I had heard from quite a few people that it was really good.  I was intrigued by the first 50 pages, but from there it just really lost my interest.  It was due back to the library over a week ago, but I hate not finishing a book.  Even if I don't like it.  Ugh, I annoy myself!  So, to sum it up I would NOT recommend it.

* I have been working with my embroidery machine.  I have made a few things, most of them not too successful.  Nothing is perfect, but here was my first appliqué project:

* I finally got a personal article insurance policy for my camera and lenses.  If you have a DSLR, you should too!  For all of my equipment it is only $36 for the year.  And that protects it anywhere and from anything!  Soooo worth it!

* I got to take pics of this bit of adorableness.....

The birthday girl will be turning THREE!  What?  I can't believe it!

* I made some of the most delicious pretzels ever.  They are a mix that you buy from Williams Sonoma.  Easy and Delicious!  Next time you head to Williams Sonoma, you definitely need to pick up a few mixes.

Dear Beckett: 39 and 40 Weeks

Dear Beckett,

We first learned that you were a BOY on Christmas Day.  We opened up the card from our sonographer with our families.... it was the best Christmas present.  That week we talked and talked about your name.  We had already brainstormed quite a few possibilities - Reese, Kennedy. and Olivia for a girl and Elliot, Owen, Hudson, and Beckett for a boy.  We took some votes, thought long and hard, and decided on Beckett.  We love that your name is unique and we REALLY loved the nickname Beck.  In fact, we loved Beck even more than Beckett.

So, you may be wondering why we haven't really called you Beck yet.  Honestly, it sounds a little too "big boy" for you right now.  You just look like a Beckett right now, but that may change.  Of course, you have plenty of other nicknames.  And I'm embarrassed to see what your main one is.

Boseefuss.

I don't even know if that is spelled right.  Bo-See-Fuss.  Yep, it's a far cry from Beck.  I don't even know how it started, but I would like to blame that on your dad.  :)

We also have  a lot of other nicknames for you.  They may be just as odd.  Or even odder.  Here we go:

B-Man
Nugget
Nugg-a-lug
Mr. B
Beckett Bug
Beckster
Monkey

Whatever you are called, you sure are loved.  And it was proved over and over again this past weekend!  We traveled back home to Oklahoma and stayed with P-Pa and Grandma (yes, he still insists on being called p-pa.... so anytime you are ready to give him your own nickname, that would be great!).

By far the most exciting event was that you started to say the word "dog."   (pronunciation: "da" -long pause- "guh).  You said it over and over again whenever you were around Jake, Lucy, or Sam.  We may be undecided about the word "hi," but we are certain that you know the word dog!

We stayed for four nights.  Unfortunately, you have been getting FOUR teeth in at once, so you had a hard time settling down for naps and sleeping throughout the night.  It made for a sleepy momma :).

But we stayed busy during the days and you were just fine.  We saw Gigi and Thunder, played with Auntie Steph, went for walks, and hung out around the house with P-pa and Grandma.  You were definitely loved on!

Back home you have been busy, busy, busy.  You continue to get into EVERYTHING.  Sometimes I try to "corral" you by putting all of your favorite toys in the hallway.  It works for about 10 minutes.  Maybe.

You are a fast crawler and have developed some rough spots on your knees and tops of your feet from all of the movement.  You don't mind being away from me and will crawl off to a completely different part of the house without even a glance to see where I am.  I hardly ever take my eyes off of you now!

Whenever you do come to a stop, you always kick one leg out to the side.  We call it your "parking brake."

But you also love to stand.  You have only managed to pull up to a standing position on your own once, but I'm sure it will happen soon.

We have finished up Water Babies class.  You LOVED swimming and had so much fun splashing and playing with the other babies.

Dad even took you once!

Your love of water extends to the bath tub as well.  You are now without the use of a baby tub.  What a big boy!  You are a wild man in there - crawling and climbing all over the place.

Another favorite activity is swinging.

And, of course, eating.

Your favorite new things are drinking water with a straw, avocado, and eggs.

We also spend a lot of time outside.  I don't think you ever get fussy when you are getting fresh air!  I'm guaranteed big smiles :).

We went to Dallas Children's Hospital to do your routine kidney testing.  Dr. Bush was SO HAPPY!  Your kidneys are growing and you are a very healthy boy.  It made your momma and daddy so excited.

We love you so much, little boy.  You give us so much joy.

Love,
Mom
