Midweek Randoms

* It's time for Beckett to get his first haircut.  The poor boy has hair growing over his ears and down his neck.  But Guy is all nervous about it :).  He keeps saying "let's do it, let's do it" and then he says "nooooo.... maybe it's too soon."  Funny daddy.

* I went through my closet and got rid of SO many clothes.  I swear I now own clothes in nearly every size (well, not size 2.  sigh.).  I am hanging on to the bigger sizes though because I know they will come in handy whenever I am pregnant again.

The entire bathtub is filled with pants.  The step is all shirts,

* We got our family pictures back.  We had taken them in Deep Ellum and I am so glad that we did!  I love the bright backgrounds.  I posted quite a few on Facebook, but here are a couple more.

* I got this postcard in the mail.   What?!?  This makes me sad.  And happy.  And then sad.  Where does time go?  I do know one thing - I absolutely CANNOT believe that I haven't worked in a year.  It has just feel like a lonnnnnggg summer.  Time flies when you are having fun :).  Ha!

* I am expecting our tax return this week.  Guy and I about fell out of our chairs when our accountant said we were getting a refund.  And a big one too!  We seriously thought that we would be owing thousands.  But we had quite a few things working in our favor - buying a new car, putting 38,000 miles of work miles on it, and having medical bills that literally were more than my pre-tax salary.  Yikes.  2011 was quite the year for the Mayo's - but our best one too.

* The baby birds have grown so much!  I went to take a pic so you could see, but they were gone.  I think they were still too small too fly, so I'm guessing they were dinner :(.

* Beckett started saying "mama" on Sunday.  He says it all the time - way more than any other word he has learned.  It melts my heart.  Beckett: "mama, mama, mama." Me - "what, baby?  You want an entire box of mum mums?  Ok.  Anything you want baby."

* Running.... I think I am going to sign up for a 5 mile run at White Rock Lake.  Only problem is that it is less than a month away.  I might be crazy.

* I went to the mall the other day and picked up quite a few clothes.  My wardrobe is hurting!  I was super excited to get three pairs of jean capris and a pair of Tom's ballet flats, among other things.  Fun!

* I'm getting nervous/excited for our trip to California.  We did get a suite with 2 rooms, so that will be helpful with Beckett's naps.  But I worry about the plane ride, his naps while we are there, and making sure that he gets plenty of time to crawl around.  I think we will go to the Huntington/Newport Beach, the San Diego Zoo, Disney Land, and a few other places.  It will be fun!

* We were surrounded by tornadoes on Tuesday.  It's unbelievable that there were zero fatalities.   We, of course, were glued to the t.v.  Actually, I was out running and got 2 phone calls from Oklahoma people just making sure we were watching the news.

So it's not a good idea to be outsides during tornado weather?

Don't worry, this was taken after all the tornadoes had cleared the area.  No babies were harmed in the production of this blog. ha!

All the rain means we will be doing more raking this weekend!

Flat Stanley Comes for a Visit!

Guess What?  We got to hang out with Flat Stanley for awhile.   Here is our letter describing our time with him....

Greetings Mrs. Poplin's Second Grade Class!

My name is Missy and my husband, our son, and I live in Lewisville, Texas.  I am lucky to be called Aunt Missy by my very sweet and smart niece Allison.  We are very close to Dallas, which is about 200 miles south of Oklahoma City.  (That takes about 3 hours of driving in the car.)  Although Dallas is the 9th largest city in the United States, it is not the capital of Texas.  Do you know the capital of Texas?  That's right… it's Austin!

Since we are so close to "The Big D," I want to tell you a little about it.   If you are a sports fan, then Dallas is the city for you! We have five professional sports teams - The Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks, FC Dallas, and the Texas Rangers.  Or, if you don't enjoy watching sports, you might like shopping at one of our many malls, spending time at the lake, or going to the zoo and aquarium.  People love living in the Dallas area because the climate is warm, people are friendly and there are lots of fun things to do!

Another fun activity is visiting the Dallas Arboretum.  An arboretum is just a fancy schmancy way of saying a large outdoor garden.  It's beautiful, don’t you agree?  Flat Stanley thought so too!  Can you find him in the flowers?

Sorry, Flat.  Beckett thought you were very flexible!

Speaking of flowers, do you know what the state flower of Texas is?  It’s the Bluebonnet.  They are gorgeous bright blue wild flowers that grow all along the sides of roads and buildings.  Right now they are in bloom.  Here is a picture of them growing along Grapevine Lake (about 20 minutes from our house).

It can get pretty hot in Dallas.  We thought Flat might enjoy some air conditioning and shopping at Northpark Mall.  When it opened in 1965 it was the largest air conditioned mall in the WORLD.  Wow!

Watch out, Flat!  We don’t want you to have an accident!

We were so excited that Flat Stanley came to visit us in Lewisville.  We had fun showing him around.  Good luck with your project in school!

Love,
Guy, Missy, and Beckett Mayo

P.S.
Please tell Allison that we miss her and can’t wait to see her soon.  Beckett can’t wait to come over and play!

The Past Few Days....

whew.... the past few days have been so busy and fun.  Exactly what I like!  Here's a quick re-cap:

On Friday Alex came into town.  With Guy moving from self employed to an employee, we really needed to take care of life insurance and changing out retirement accounts.  I still have to transfer money, but the official paperwork is complete, which is nice.

That evening Guy and I watched "Soul Surfer."  Have you seen it?  It was better than I thought it would be.  I enjoyed it!

On Saturday morning we all woke up extra early in order to head to Addison and walk the MS 5K.  The daughter of a friend of Guy's has MS, so we were there to support their family.  Beckett enjoyed the people watching!

That afternoon we stayed pretty lazy and just hung out.  I had to get ready because my friend Laura was having her bachelorette party downtown.  We met at the Omni Hotel (which is pretty dang amazing) and then had dinner at a fantastic restaurant called St. Anne's.  It was really fun to be out in Dallas and talk with some new friends.

Check out this view!  Not bad, huh?  This is the pool/bar area at the Omni.

The next morning was busy doing last minute preparations for our Friends' Easter Egg Hunt.  I made Guy's bunny outfit... I think he really liked it, actually.  (Yes, he really is hopping around.)

We met at Memorial park and had the best time.  Thank goodness for the pack and play - it contained the babies!

The kiddos loved finding their eggs.  They each had a specific color to find, which worked well since we had a variety of ages.

Beckett didn't seem to get the memo about which eggs were his, though.  He thought they all had puffs in them!

It was a fun morning!  I was happy to be around my good friends and make some good memories.

But the fun had to end sometime.... Suddenly we were surrounded my hoards of school children.  Yikes!

On Monday Guyla came to town.  She watched Mr. Beckett  while Guy and I went to see The Hunger Games.  It was SO good.  It really was one of the best book/movie adaptations I have seen.  I recommend it!

So that's our re-cap.  The next few days are pretty low key, so that will be nice.  I plan to read more of my new book "The Lucky One" and work on some embroidery.

Dear Beckett: 43 and 44 Weeks

Dear Beckett,

Oh silly boy you have been so much fun the last couple of weeks.  You have had another developmental jump, so it's been fun to watch the changes and see you learning.  A few things new things you are doing include pulling up on anything and everything, trying to stand without holding on to anything, saying bye-bye, waving, and throwing a ball back and forth with me.

Wow.

You have been busy!  And we can hardly keep up with you.

You have also discovered a love for the toilet lid

and "beavering" your crib.

Your Great Nanny sent you an animal book in the mail.  She must know how you LOVE your books.  They are especially fun to scoot around on (one book under each hand).

By the way, she addressed the envelope as "Master Beckett."  Ha!

We have also had some visitors who came just to see you.

You were a good helper and had fun opening birthday gifts.

Grandma and Aunt Steph got to experience a diaper change.  It is no easy task anymore!  You hate having to lay still and just want to be up crawling and exploring.

Uncle Alex was also in town for a few hours.  You guys were matching twins!

You were invited to your very first birthday party.  Miss Teagan turned three!  We celebrated at Best Gymnastics.  The ball pit with dad was especially fun!

We've also been busy with bluebonnet pictures,

wagon rides,

and picking grass.

Although Easter hasn't arrived yet, we did do a very fun egg hunt with your friends.

Your eggs had puffs in them!  Delicious.

We also went to visit the Easter Bunny.  No tears.  In fact, I think you kinda liked him :).

These days you hardly will eat baby food.  You prefer whole foods, especially ones you can feed yourself.  Your new favorite fruits are kiwi, mango, and banana.  I'm pretty impressed with your love of fruits!  You can eat either 2 whole kiwis or and entire banana (just chomping right into it) plus a ton of meat.  What a good eater!

I have started to give you a few ounces of formula at night.  I haven't decided if I will continue to nurse for a full year, so I just wanted to be sure that you would take it.  You don't seem to mind.

Here you are being silly - you think it's fun to lean your head to the side in your high chair.

Such a big boy!

We love you.

Love,
Mom
